![]() Gospel music great Joyce "Dottie" Rambo died early Sunday morning in a bus accident near Mount Vernon, Missouri. According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Rambo, 74, of Nashville, Tennessee, died in the crash about two miles east of Mount Vernon on Interstate 44. Seven other people in the bus were injured, and were hospitalized in Springfield with moderate to severe injuries, the patrol said. The accident occurred around 2 a.m. during severe weather; however, officials were uncertain if the accident was related to weather conditions. She was on her way to a Mother's Day performance in North Richland Hills, Texas. She was scheduled to be in concert with Lulu Roman and Naomi Sego. Rambo appeared as a special concert guest during Celebrators in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee in October, 2006. "Dottie Rambo was a very gracious lady with an unique anointing to write songs," Evangelist Phil Waldrep said in a statement upon hearing of her death Sunday afternoon. "She had the ability to convey Biblical messages in music. She was loved by those who attended Celebrators. We all will miss her greatly." Rambo was inducted to the Kentucky Music Hall of Fame in 2006 and the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2007. She wrote more than 2,500 songs, including gospel classics such as "He Looked Beyond My Fault and Saw My Need" and the 1982 Gospel Music Association Song of the Year, "We Shall Behold Him." |
